Sorcerers in Dungeons & Dragons
An Overview
Sorcerers are a type of spellcaster in Dungeons & Dragons who derive their magical abilities from an innate source, as opposed to learned knowledge or study. This innate source can take various forms, such as a magical birthright, exotic bloodline, otherworldly influence, or exposure to unknown cosmic forces.
Spellcasting Abilities
Sorcerers possess a limited number of spell slots, which they can use to cast spells of varying levels. Each spell slot can only be used to cast a spell of a specific level. Sorcerers also have a pool of Sorcery Points, which they can use to fuel certain spellcasting effects, such as Metamagic.
Comparing to Wizards
Unlike wizards, sorcerers do not prepare their spells in advance. Instead, they can cast any spell they know at any time, as long as they have the necessary spell slot available. However, sorcerers typically have a smaller repertoire of spells compared to wizards.
Innate Power
Sorcerers are naturally gifted spellcasters, and they possess a deep understanding of magic. They are often drawn to adventuring life, using their abilities to unravel mysteries, fight evil, and shape the fate of the world.
