American fighter jet intercepts anti-ship cruise missile
A commercial ship was hit and set on fire by an anti-ship cruise missile in the southern Red Sea on Sunday, US officials said. The attack came from the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The US Navy destroyer USS Carney responded to the distress call and shot down three drones launched by the Houthis. A fighter jet also shot down an anti-ship cruise missile fired toward the destroyer.
Eighteen drones, two anti-ship cruise missiles, and one anti-ship ballistic missile were fired at the commercial ships by the Houthis.
The US Navy has since shot down two anti-ship missiles and sunk three small boats after responding to the attack.
