Royal Troon Golf Club: A Historic Links Course in Scotland

History and Establishment

WEB Royal Troon Golf Club is nestled in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Its humble beginnings can be traced back to 1878, when it was established as a modest six-hole layout designed by Charlie Hunter, a protégé of the legendary Old Tom Morris.

From Six to Eighteen

Over the years, Royal Troon has undergone significant transformations. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1896, designed in the traditional out-and-back manner of the Old Course at St Andrews. The result is a challenging test that begins gently and gradually intensifies as golfers navigate the picturesque Ayrshire landscape.

The Open Returns

In 2024, the prestigious Open Championship will once again descend upon Royal Troon, marking the 10th time the Ayrshire links have hosted the tournament. With its unpredictable conditions and challenging layout, Royal Troon promises to provide an unforgettable experience for players and spectators alike.
