American Football Indiana Hoosiers Quarterbacks And Big Ten Competition

American Football: Indiana Hoosiers, Quarterbacks, and Big Ten Competition

The Indiana Hoosiers Football Team

The Indiana Hoosiers football team represents Indiana University Bloomington in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). They compete in the Big Ten Conference's East Division. The Hoosiers have never won a national championship, but they have won three Big Ten championships (1945, 1967, and 1986). As of 2023, the Hoosiers are led by head coach Tom Allen.

Quarterbacks at Indiana

Indiana has had a number of notable quarterbacks over the years, including: Antwaan Randle El, Kellen Lewis, and Nate Sudfeld. Randle El was a dual-threat quarterback who led the Hoosiers to their first Big Ten championship in 46 years in 1986. He was also a standout baseball player, and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 11th round of the 1997 MLB draft.

Lewis was a three-year starter for the Hoosiers, and led them to a bowl game in 2007. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Sudfeld was a four-year starter for the Hoosiers, and led them to their first bowl win in 25 years in 2015. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Curt Cignetti: Indiana's Current Quarterbacks Coach

Curt Cignetti is entering his fourth season as Indiana's quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. He previously served as the head coach at Elon University from 2009 to 2016, and was the offensive coordinator at Rutgers University from 2017 to 2018.

Cignetti has a reputation for developing quarterbacks, and has helped Indiana's quarterbacks improve their accuracy and efficiency in recent years. In 2022, Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak threw for over 3,000 yards and 23 touchdowns, and led the Hoosiers to a bowl game.

Indiana's Big Ten Conference Rivalry

Indiana competes in the Big Ten Conference's East Division, which includes some of the most prestigious programs in college football, such as Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. The Hoosiers have struggled to compete with these teams in recent years, but they have had some success against them in recent seasons.

In 2020, Indiana upset Penn State at home, and in 2021, they defeated Ohio State in overtime in Bloomington. These wins show that the Hoosiers are capable of competing with the best teams in the Big Ten, and they will be looking to build on their success in the years to come.
